This is actually the second time we have completed this project. The first time we did a not so great job and had to try again. This time we got it right. I picked up a bunch of very old photo frames from my favorite junk store. The frames were pretty large so they ranged anywhere from 3 - 7 dollars/piece. After I messed up the first time by not painting them all in the same paint finish and not prepping correctly -- I was determined to do it right the second go around. So, I took them all down and stripped the first coat of paint off and did a lot of sanding. Here's some photos mid-way.....I gave them all a coat of primer. Then painted them all with off the shelf white flat paint. The flat finish made the difference. All the other finishes seemed to make all of the imperfections stand out. And since they are all pretty old frames -- there are LOTS of imperfections. We chose to do older family photos for our wall o' frames....And if you haven't already figured it out...Talon can do anything. He made the photo mats for all of these frames. We went to Michael's and priced out matting for all of these frames....RIDONCULIOUS. So, Talon stepped up to the plate and opted to do it himself. We bought a big piece of matting board (you can pick it up at any craft store) and an X-Acto knife. Within a few hours...we had custom mats for all of our frames....We had no method to hanging them. We didn't do any fancy measuring or anything. Just laid them out on the floor to kind of get an idea of how we liked them and then eye balled hanging them up there. Real professional. The best part of our wall o' frames...I get to walk by sweet photos like Baby Tal everyday...
Moral of the story...do it right the first time. Although, I'm pretty happy with the second go arounds final product.
