Loving This Bedding

It immediately made me think of Sasha Adler's bedroom.

Not a 100% match, but a close second.

Layering: One way to achieve it

I like layers.  It's really hard to explain (to someone not obsessed with interiors) what that means.  But the other day I was browsing Tommy Smythe's portfolio and I saw a very clear example of layering. I thought it was a brilliant idea and wanted to share.

Do you see the stool/bench underneath the night table?  Its purpose is like a nesting table, individual tables inside one another, providing more surface area for your things.  However, unlike a nesting table, the upholstered bench adds another dimension/layer for your eye to look at.  The light fabric on the bench breaks up the wood, creates contrast and softens things up.  If the bench wasn't there, it wouldn't be as interesting.  Now, that is a layer!

We see Tommy do this again in another one of his bedrooms.  Now, this could have been purely done for styling purposes, but I tend to doubt it.  Here, we see the exact same bench used exactly the same way.  Like a nesting table, the bench could easily slide in and out from underneath the table.  Practical.

Here is another example of a similar layer (not Tommy Smythe).  A round garden stool underneath a night table.  The circular shape of the stool breaks up all the straight lines in the room and creates another interesting thing to look at.

Here, in one of Ashley Putman's older bedrooms, we see a bench propped in front of a chest. I think this might've been done strictly for styling purposes, but nevertheless do you see how it adds one more dimension for your eye to study?  The white painted bench with the black and white damask fabric creates contrast and adds another page to a virtually all black and white color scheme.

So, do you like layers too? Would you try this in your home?  I just posted this idea in bedrooms, but you could try this in any room, really...

I thought this was a nice picture to wrap up Valentine's week; a sweet and feminine girl's bedroom.

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

Kristen Panitch Interiors

I stumbled across the portfolio of the Los Angeles based designer, Kristen Panitch, the other day while doing a search on wallpapered rooms.  I now know why her pictures popped up - she is not afraid of using wallpaper.  And, I love it.  I can't help but think that the style these rooms portray is exactly what I want to achieve in our next home.

I also found an interview that Nicole Gibbons, from So Haute, did with Kristen Panitch.  Below is a snapshot of Kristen's office.  I guess Kristen's home is being shot by one of the shelter magazines so I can't wait to see that!  I assume it hasn't been published yet?

So, what do you think?  Don't you love her mix of wallpapers, patterns and moody colors?  I like the eclectic yet traditional feel.  Doesn't it make the interiors feel so real and lived in?

Haven't seen enough?  Paula from Two Ellie (here) and Erin from House of Turquoise (here) also did posts on Kristin Panitch.  Go check them out!

A Chic Brooklyn Heights Greek Revival!

I stumbled across this incredible Brooklyn Heights Greek Revival via CWB Architects.  This project entailed a complete structural and mechanical gut renovation of this four story, 3200 sq. ft. row house and extension.

The designer?  Jennifer Eisenstadt Design and Decoration, LLC.  Why have I not heard of her before?  Check out this incredibly chic home (I believe this might be her home.)

I am completely speechless....

Keep a look out for her use of modern and vintage light fixtures.  I believe this and the kitchen's fixture might be Lindsey Adelman's bubble light which I posted about here.  I am in love!

Pocket doors, brass fixtures, modern lighting, oh my!

For real? A leopard print runner!! Brilliantly done.

Black and white graphic wallpaper and mirrored furniture - I love it.  Do you notice the ruffle trim on the curtains?  Such a nice feminine detail.  And, the brass doorknobs?  I love the dark walls in the adjourning room.  I just wish I could see more of this bedroom.

How chic!

The marble veining in the shower, the vanity's lucite legs, hexagonal floor and wall tiles and the brass hardware are all so wonderful!

I am so using balloon shades in our next house.  Remember this post?

So tastefully done.

Do you notice how glossy the trim is?

This is probably her office, no?  What an amazing space to work in!

And, just when you thought you were done with the surprises - she throws this into the mix!  Holy Cow!  She is incredible!  The mix of the chinoiserie wallpaper with the inlaid wooden chevron floor - crazy good!

I love the primary colors and the kilim rug!

Oh my goodness!!  So amazing!

Okay, how incredible is this home?  I can tell you that I will be studying each and every one of these pictures for a long time.  I haven't felt this inspired in a while.

Can some magazine publish her space so I can get all the sources, please??

Jennifer Eisenstadt is my new hero!

Jenny Wolf Interiors

I love pinterest.  Who doesn't?  I stumbled across Jenny Wolf interiors while pinning and I hopped over to look at her portfolio - I am so glad I did.  I really like her style.  She grew up in the South and credits her style to her Southern roots.  Anyway, I like what I saw and thought I'd share.

Pretty, huh?

Also, I realized I never posted my pinterest account on my blog before.  If you want to follow my boards, you can find me here.

Make a visual impact

It's hard to resist fall's temptation of layering patterns of tartan and plaid for visual impact.  While browsing Lisa Sherry's blog, I stumbled across this amazing bathroom with plaid tile.  Yes, you heard me right, a plaid tiled floor!!!  How awesome!

Here, I love how Atlantic-Pacific combines patterns of plaid to create immediate texture and contrast.

Here, we see a similar look translated to a room.  I really like this idea of combining plaids.  It really creates such a dramatic look.

I love how Tommy Smythe uses the oversized pattern of buffalo check to add some interest to an otherwise serene bedroom.

So, what do you think - is this pattern a fall favorite??

Another All Time Favorite & Hable Construction Discount

During our 12 hour road trip to Michigan (and back) I brought all of my domino magazines and looked through each and every one of them.  It was so great revisiting these magazines and getting so inspired all over again! While browsing through the issues, I came across Rita Konig's apartment (an oldie but goodie) and realized how much I really love it.

I love her style and the infustion of english design in her apartment.  It really appeals to me.  In her new apartment (not pictured) she has balloon shades which I really like.  It brings back memories living in Belguim growing up.

She's really good at creating that slightly messy piled on British look.

Her designs scream comfort and I'd like to create more of that look in my home.

So femnine and cozy.  If you notice under her console table there are two hable construction totes which she uses for storage.  I love this idea.  I've been in love with Hable Construction for a long time, but have held off in investing in a couple of pieces because of price.  Well, they are having a sale on their storage bushels.
